A perfect day in Arts District Houston starts at Catalina Coffee, a no-fuss coffee roaster whose fresh and simple atmosphere keeps the focus on the coffee. Catalina prides itself on expertly crafted coffee beverages in addition to its seasonal loose-leaf teas and fresh pastries, delivered daily. What was meant to be a coffee pit-stop for commuters into Downtown has turned into a beacon for coffee-lovers that has changed the course of the coffee scene in Houston. There’s no internet in the cafe for a reason — so that visitors interact one-on-one with baristas and each other, and so that the coffee experience is not lost to yet another coffee-fueled meeting place. We can also thank Catalina Coffee and its owner Max Gonzales, for its role in establishing Amaya Roasting Company, a different branch of the same mission to serve our big city with high-quality and original international blends.

INSIDER TIP

Other great stops for coffee in Arts District Houston are Handerson & Kane General Store, in the same neighborhood, and Cafeza - a Jazz-forward ambient cafe on Houston Avenue in the First Ward. We highly recommend all three!
