  • Always Open

Buffalo Bayou, Houston’s most significant natural resource, is an unexpected venue for art — especially in an urban context. Commissioned and maintained by the Buffalo Bayou Partnership, a variety of public artworks, from traditional bronze sculptures to land art, are on view 24/7 along pedestrian trails from Shepard Drive, through Arts District Houston, and to the Port of Houston Turning Basin.

INSIDER TIP

Anthony Thompson Shumate’s, "Monumental Moments" series, pictured above, shows human-scaled words turned into site-specific sculpture and integrated into the landscape along the course of the Buffalo Bayou trail. The placement of these sculptures create a silent call to action during the viewer’s movement along the trail. Covering six sites in total, the project calls park-goers to “Explore, Emerge, Pause, Reflect, Listen,” and “Observe.”
